What Are the Benefits of a Semi-Above Ground Pool?

Things to Know About Semi-Above Ground Pools

Semi-above ground pools are becoming increasingly popular and it is not hard to see why. They are flexible, durable, affordable, and easy to maintain. You may not know a lot of the benefits of this type of pool and there are many! When we decided we wanted a pool in our backyard, we did a ton of research. We soon realized that this style of pool was the way to go and I am going to share with you why!

So what are the benefits of a semi-above ground pool? Some of the benefits include:

  • Can Work With Tricky Yards: Semi-above ground pools are a great choice for anyone who has a difficult yard to work with. Our yard has a hill that runs through it which makes it difficult to have an in-ground pool and impossible to have an above-ground one.
  • Less Commitment: Of course, it is more commitment than an above-ground pool but it can be less of a commitment than a full in-ground pool because there’s less construction involved.
  • More Design Options: This kind of pool is extremely customizable, which is why it’s becoming so popular. You can find a semi-above ground pool to fit your design needs with a vast selection of shapes and sizes.
  • Durable And Affordable: With a semi-above ground pool you will get maximum durability while staying on budget. This pool will last years and will cost less than an in-ground pool.

These are the biggest benefits of a semi-above ground pool. I want to share with you why these things matter and how to get the most out of your pool!

Works Well With Tricky Yards

One of the main reasons people think they can’t have a pool is because their yard is odd. Whether it is because of hills, rocky soil, or a weird shape. Having an in-ground or above-ground pool is extremely difficult if your yard is not level or the right size.

However, semi-above ground pools can work around this! Most people don’t realize that you can build up the pool with dirt instead of digging down into it.

You can also be more specific about the size and shape to fit into your space better. Along those lines, you can choose how deep you want the pool to sit.

Many people even opt for an un-even look (especially for those with a hill in the yard.) A lot of landscaping companies share this benefit and work with your yard to make sure you get a pool that looks exactly how you want it!

Less Commitment

When it comes to commitment, an above-ground pool would be the best. However, if you don’t like the look or fragility of an above-ground pool then a semi-above ground pool is the next best option!

This style of a pool doesn’t require as much digging or concrete compared to an in-ground pool. This means you are saving money on labor costs because there’s no major construction involved.

Also if you find yourself wanting to get rid of your pool after some years, you can do that a lot easier and less expensive than getting rid of an in-ground pool.

More Design Options

When it comes to design, above-ground pools have zero options for the most part. You are stuck with a blue round pool. In-ground pools can also be limited since they are level to the ground.

However, with semi-above ground pools, you have options! You can choose almost any shape or color that you want. This is perfect if you have a unique yard and want to make it something special.

You can also get very creative with how much and where you bury your pool. You can create a very eye-catching look with just the way you bury it! You can also build interesting decks and stairs around your pool to make it your own.

Durable And Affordable

Above ground, pools are very fragile and easy to break. They are often made of vinyl which can tear or crack easily. On the other hand, semi-above ground pools are usually made out of metal with a powder-coated surface. This makes them extremely durable compared to above-ground pools.

Not only that but because they are not deep you have less to worry about getting replaced if someone cracks it accidentally. And because they aren’t fully in the ground, you don’t have to pay for as much construction!

You can save time and money on your pool because there’s less overall work involved in setting it up. This way you are getting a durable pool without spending more money than need be.

Now that I have gone over the main benefits of these pools, I want to discuss some of the most common questions surrounding semi-above ground pools!

What To Look For When Shopping for a Semi-Above Ground Pool

Before purchasing a semi-above ground pool, there are a few things to consider:

  1. First, you will want to figure out what will work with your yard. Seek professional help if needed. Figure out the size and depth of pool your yard can handle.
  2. Make sure that it is big enough for your needs. You don’t want to buy something too small because then you’re just wasting money.
  3. Another thing to take into consideration is what you’ll be using the pool for. If your children are young, then you’ll want to make sure that there are no sharp edges around the perimeter of the pool.
  4. It is also important to look at how much water it can hold. This will allow you to have a good idea about whether or not the pool will be able to give you the depth that you need.
  5. Also, consider if it is going to be easy enough for everyone in your family to get in and out of the pool safely. If children will be using the pool, then a shallow end is ideal because they won’t have as far to swim. Additionally, a convenient ladder or steps will make getting in and out much easier!

With all of these things in mind, you should have no problem finding a semi-above ground pool that meets all of your needs. These pools are less expensive than traditional above-ground pools but still provide hours of summertime fun!

What Type of Pool Is Better for Kids?

Of course, this is dependent on what you are comfortable with. I like that I can control the depth with a semi-above ground pool. I can have a sloped style that offers a shallow end for my kids to enter and play in.

I also like that I don’t have to worry about my kids being too rough and tearing the pool like they could with an above-ground one.

Do I Have To Hire Professional Installation?

This all depends on your skill level. Generally speaking, most people will hire out the work because they will have all the necessary equipment. However, if you’re not afraid of some manual labor, then you can design, dig, and install yourself.

You will want to make sure you are allowed to dig into your yard by checking with your city. If you are operating larger machinery, I would consult a professional.

Does A Semi-Ground Pool Use Less Water?

Yes. Because the pool is not in full contact with your yard, there is less evaporation. Additionally, less water will be lost to the surrounding ground. This means you can get more for your money.

As long as it has the same depth and is of equal surface area, there should be no issue with using less water than an above-ground pool would use.

Note: When filling or draining a semi-above ground pool ensure that you take into account that the height of the pool doesn’t change. This will ensure you can maintain the depth you desire.

Do Semi-Above Ground Pools Come With Equipment?

Yes, most semi-above ground pools come with all equipment necessary except for a pump and filter system. You should definitely buy these accessories because they can help the water stay clean and clear.

This is important for healthy living conditions. They will require a little more equipment than above-ground pools but less than in-ground pools.

Conclusion

Semi-above ground pools are a great choice for anyone looking for a pool that will provide them with hours of entertainment and not break the bank. These pools are easy to maintain and are convenient for getting in and out of.

You can also choose the size that is most appropriate for your family’s needs. As long as you consider what will work best with your yard, you should have no trouble finding a pool that suits all of your needs!

With all of the benefits that come along with semi-above ground swimming pools, it’s no wonder they are such a popular alternative to traditional above-ground and in-ground pools! I hope this article was helpful for you if you are considering a semi-above ground pool, thank you for reading!
